| I put only the ones I want to go, if you want to go to another lecture, post it: | Code: | You are invited to attend a lecture on Thursday 6 November at 5.30 pm in the Wolfson Medical School Building, Seminar Room 3 (the Gannochy). The lecture is hosted by the Glasgow Centre for International Development.
Dr Enock Matovu, will speak on the subject of "Challenges in Health Care in Uganda".
Dr Matovu is a Lecturer in the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine, Makerere University in Uganda. He obtained his PhD from the University of Bern in 2001 where he studied the molecular basis of drug resistance in trypanosomiasis. He has devoted his research career to the study of drug resistance and has been successful in implementing new technologies to help assist in the diagnosis of drug resistance in the field. His observations contributed to the Ugandan national trypanosomiasis programme changing drug-policy, replacing melarsoprol, to which resistance was increasing, with eflornithine. The switch has coincided with a significant drop in prevalence of trypanosomiasis. Dr Matovu is considered to be among Africa’s leading young scientists having shown how observations made using high-tech approaches in Europe can be translated to practical applications in health care in Uganda. He is actively involved in collaborative research ventures with investigators at the University of Glasgow’s Faculty of Biomedical and Life Sciences. |
