Since this is the fist post.
Just want to say wish all of us could make a good result at the end of this programme.
Good luck For all!

Hi there,

well done Wayne, you've broken the ice.

I hope all the MRes Bioinformatics students will join the forum.

Hi, guys.
I guess we can write here something about our scientific interests (though it'll be quite interesting to know our hobbies etc.)
As for me, I'm fascinated by the origin of life, evolution theory and the ways of the further transforming (or evolution) Homo s. s. But I know almost nothing about all these Smile Hope, our MRes course will help to learn much more scratch

Hey Mike,

so what is your main theory?

For instance if we were going back to the origin of Universe (supposing there is one) and play the story again, will we have the same result of evolution?

I read a book called "the Origin of Life", have you ever read some stuffs about the development of eyes in the history of evolution or the origin of language?
Just for this two chapters, you should have a look to this book if you find it at the library:

As for me, I had little experience in research about gene regulation, micro RNA. And I am very interested in gene network regulation and would like to do some further research in that area. Just like you, or like most of us, though I know little about the field, I hope this MRes course would help me both in programming skills and research experiences.

As for the hobbies, I like to play pool, badminton and basketball when I am free.

I was interested in the relative topics and it's very nice to see you guys talk the interesting things here. My answer for your question is absolutely not. I would suggest evolution as a serial of complex random events. Everything would be different if we could go back, unfoturnately, we couldnt. Smile

PostSubject: Introduction.   Sat Sep 27, 2008 1:25 am

Hey guys,

Sorry i ve been inactive in this forum as i am just trying to find my foot in this programming.
About me.

My name is oluwole olaseni o just call me seni for short.
I guess am the oldest among you guys. I studied biochemistry graduated about 4.5 yrs ago. after which i went to do the 1 year compulsory service in my country where i carried out the following;
act as an inspecting officer to high schools on maintaining the standards of teaching chemistry, biology and physics.
I also carried out some evening lectures on biology and chemistry.
the demanding aspect of the one year is where i had to delve into IT which i never learnt b4 where i got introduce to hardware engineering, software management, networking and server client based administrator.

hahaahh i ve actually not really done anything related to my course par sey.

After this of course i ended the 1 year service in march 2005. and was suppose to start up my msc bioinformatics in leicester university in England but couldnt secure funding and actually from a poor background.I decided to work.
Ofcourse i had to work to be able to acheive my aim so the best place for me is to work in a financial institution, where i was first a front line officer then cash manangement, after which i proceeded to be an electronic business representative. alongside i handled the management of ATM machines (cash dispensing machines). Finally i was moved to consumer banking where i had to source for business for the bank, do key customer relationship management.
All thru this i was doing a professional exam in Accounting called ACCA (Association of Charterred Certified Accountant UK). i had reach stage two with just 5 papers left to out of 14 bag the certificate then i stop to retarce my step as what
actually want is application of It to genetic data generation, disease targeting, how i can manipulate this genetic data to determine the solutions to many diseases.
That is actually my interest. U can say i ve not done any thing but what i pass thru this pass 4 yrs outside life sciences u can not imagine as i ve to acually fund for my self. I have learnt alot and pass thru them not just reading.I worked on a plant during my undergraduate in plant medicinal lab in my school and my supervisor has posted my work.underr this link. http://www.superhumanradio.com/research/Asian%20J%20Androl%202005%20Fadogia%20agrestis.pdf.

u can read what its all about incase u re interested.
aside that i ve only worked as industrial attache in a clinical laboratory where i carried out experiments and perform qualitative analysis on chemicals used.

My actual interest is how to produce solutions to thw world most treatening diseases using IT tools. Diseases like cancer, sickle cell, malaria, etc

To resurrect our discussion...

Quote:

I can't give an unequivocal answer if we speak about a theory of macroevolution. But at this moment I have nothing better than STE Rolling Eyes It is the main interest for me - are there any general (for our particular Universe) physical laws which clearly define fundamental scheme of macroevolution or not? I suppose such laws exist and the main events will be the same (in general, not in fine details) as they are now. I mean if all conditions would be the same.
May be I'm too addicted to materialism, causal determinism and to the Laplace's demon (though it is a wrong model Very Happy )
